9pm – Celebrating the life of Peter Tork ft. The Trouble With Monkey’s & Von Zippers
Saturday, March 2 @ 9:00 pm - 1:00 am
Did you know that Peter Tork once lived in Fairfax and performed at 19 Broadway and the old Sleeping Lady? Here’s a quote from the Marin IJ: “He performed at 19 Broadway and other Fairfax clubs with his own band and occasionally sat in with Big Brother and the Holding Company, becoming friends with band members Sam Andrew and drummer David Getz.”
THE TROUBLE WITH MONKEY’S
The Trouble With Monkeys rocks-out the smash hits of the Monkees, and is the only active tribute to the “American Beatles” in all of California. With big guitars, huge grooves, and soaring vocals, TTWM translates the Monkees’ classic songs for modern audiences.
Von Zippers play flashback covers for Old School New Wavers/Alt-Rockers doing our take on College Radio classic artists from the late 70s through the 90s (think: The Clash, Elvis Costello, Bowie, Replacements, early Joe Jackson, U2, Violent Femmes, The Specials, Buzzcocks, Nick Lowe, R.E.M, and the like, with a few surprises along the way). All slightly tweaked for a live experience that ensures upbeat, dance-able, singalong fun and not the same old song selections other bands already overdo. Band members all met in Chico, CA and have played with each other in a variety of acts for nearly 30 years (including well known Bay Area and Chico bands, like: Superbooty, Brutilicus Maximus, Ticket To Ride, The Shakes, Heavy Petty and QuasiMofos).
