9pm – Sly & Robbie & the Taxi Gang w/ Bitty Mclean, Cherine Anderson & DJ Sep (Dub Mission)

Sly and Robbie are a prolific Jamaican rhythm section and production duo, associated primarily with the reggae genre. Drummer Sly Dunbar and bassist Robert Shakespeare teamed up in the mid-1970s after establishing themselves separately in Jamaica as professional musicians. Sly and Robbie are estimated to have played on or produced 200,000 recordings, many of them on their own label, Taxi Records.

Sly & Robbie have won several Grammy Awards since 1984, the first year Reggae got its own Grammy category. That year, they won with Black Uhuru. Since then, they have won a Grammy for best reggae album in 1998 with Friends and several others. They have also been nominated with No Doubt, for whom they produced two hit singles in 2001 (Hey Baby and Underneath it all).

Bitty McLean (born 8 August 1972,[1] Birmingham, England) is a British/Jamaican reggae, lovers rock and raggamusician. He is best known for his three UK Top 10 hits in 1993 and 1994, including his debut offering “It Keeps Rainin’ (Tears from My Eyes)”.

DJ Sep is the founder, promoter, and main resident DJ at Dub Mission. Now 22 years strong, Dub Mission is one of the longest-running reggae parties in the world. Devoted to dub, roots reggae, dancehall and remixes, Dub Mission has been voted Best Reggae Club by Bay Guardian readers four times in 5 years. For 22 years, Sep was also on Bay Area radio: first on the highly-influential college station, KUSF, and later at Berkeley’s public radio station, KPFA.
