“One of the best live soul bands I have ever seen!” – Al Bell (Record producer, songwriter, executive, and co-owner of legendary Stax Records)

Raised amid the rich musical culture and history of the San Francisco Bay Area, Monophonics proudly carry the torch through the generations into today’s musical landscape. Holding on to tradition, but by no means purists of any kind, they play their own brand of music known as “Psychedelic Soul.”

The 2012 release of Monophonics last album In Your Brain saw the band pulling influences from such acts as early Funkadelic, Sly and The Family Stone and the The Temptation’s Norman Whitfield produced records. With the new album, Sound of Sinning (April 1, 2015 on Transistor Sound Records), the band has grown in all areas of record making and felt a need to explore other important influences. While the group has come to cherish these inspirations, with Sound of Sinning they started venturing beyond, to the groups that were inspiring those soul acts to embrace the psychedelic sound of the 60’s and 70’s. Bands such as The Zombies, The Beatles, Beach Boys and Pink Floyd. Even with the experimentation of new musical territory, they display the sound that people know and love about Monophonics. Touching on Northern soul, doo-wop, rock and roll, Psych pop, and cinematic music, Monophonics show off their diversity while remaining true to their roots. Overall it’s heartfelt music and old school vibes, without losing sight of the present. This is music steeped in that timeless feeling when people could write and produce songs that you could listen to over and over again. Sound of Sinning was produced by Kelly Finnigan & Ian McDonald and recorded on an old Tascam eight-track 1/4” tape machine at Transistor Sound Studios in San Rafael, CA.

Monophonics is Austin Bohlman (Drums), Myles O’Mahony (Bass/Background Vocals), Ian McDonald (Guitar/Background Vocals), Ryan Scott (Trumpet/Back- ground Vocals/Percussion) & Kelly Finnigan (Keys/Lead Vocals) along with a rotating 2nd horn usually filled by Nadav Nirenberg (Trombone) from Ikebe Shakedown and Breakdown Brass.

Amy Unauthorized began as a dream to put a soul band together. Drummer and Musical Director Cory Graves had always loved the genre, and later the idea of doing a project based around Amy Winehouse’s music, but found it difficult to find the right people for this project.

However, with the help of guitarist and friend Chris Motter, Bay Area bassist Jacob Freedman, and the inspired recruitment of their peers from around the Bay Area, the band was soon assembled – all that was left was to bring this wonderful music back to the stage.

I started in 1984…I kicked started my first crew Total Control with a guy named Marc Brown in about 85…I quit his crew to due to creative differences to build my own…SBC DJ’s was formed around late 85-early 86…SBC was formally abbreviated short for Style Beyond Compare…originally taken from a group of graffiti/breakin dancing kids which eventually turned in to DJ’s.

SBC was from Daly City…started by me, out of Westmoor High School…(same school as familiar DJ groups & DJ’s named: Spintronix, Mike Master Mike, & DJ Apollo came from)….I barely graduated in 1987…but got my diploma in the mail 1 week after graduation…then went to Skyline College to force myself to become something for 3 years…in the end to find out I was just attending college just fall asleep in class from a hard day of work from the night before!

Anyways…I used DJing as a way to stay out of the trouble of gangs, drugs & the corner liquor store! Tho these things are always the biggest downfall of most teens in life at my age, I managed some how to dodge all of these things and drag other members to join me and stay on a positive path. Till this day I still don’t do any of these EVIL temptations which have helped keep me on a straight road to being successful & focused at DJing as a career! Who would of ever of thought that DJing would be my long life time job! If u currently look around the game of DJing, very few ever make it a FULL-TIME gig…most have to do this as a passion on the side of their real day to day lives working a real job…Somehow I’ve learned hustle to beat the odds….and I wanna say making real money to live while keeping the same creative art of DJing has probably been the biggest challenge & goal of my entire life…I’ve been at DJing full time now since 1995 (the start of KMEL) and haven’t looked back since thru the rough and tough times of the current economy! And I don’t ever plan to work a real job again! (cross my fingers)

To make a long story short I’ve been a late bloomer to radio and got on back in 1995…after the great regime of Cameron Paul, Alex Mejia, Michael Erickson, Theo & Billy Vidal just to name a few who now all moved on in life to other things…ever since I’ve carried the ball and I’ve been very lucky to stay constantly relevant by changing with the times and always keeping an open mind to be ahead of the curve.

My SBC crew is probably one of the only few left from the 80’s that is STILL AROUND…STILL KEEPING IT STREET & STILL DOIN IT AS A CREW (no solo)…STILL DOING MIXTAPES….ALL ON A CONSISTENT LEVEL (25 plus years in the game)…we consider ourselves the last of the DINOSAURS and hoping we can pass the torch as we are constantly taking in new members and not get struck by any meteor’s to cause our extinction!

Currently, I’m employed at KMEL… DJing 7 days a week! These obstacles in life are day to day challenges to keep number #1 ratings and the things I do in the streets beyond!

Norris Man is a struggling reggae singer with deep Rastafarian beliefs. He was born Christopher Campbell and grew up in the Trenchtown and Arnett Gardens sections of Kingston, Jamaica. When he was ten, he hung around recording studios and dances where he was often solicited to get the crowd going. A singer and a DJ, Norris Man’s influences run the gamut from Lionel Richie to Papa San. He speaks in a thick Jamaican accent, and is difficult to understand, but sings with amazing clarity. Norris Man started recording in his teens, but the records never drew much attention. To his dismay, stardom was harder to achieve than expected. Persevering through many trials and tribulations, including being gypped and beat down, he continued nonstop toward his goal.
